According to the investigation held by Competition and Markets Authority (CMA),16 celebrities in the United Kingdom which including Ellie Goulding Alexa Chung, and Rita Ora were caught red handed conducting Hidden Advertisement they were made to take the posts down and to ensure to not trap the followers in false advertisement.
Why Is It Important To Have The Labelled?
Advertising without mentioning it is not approved by Instagram. Consumer protection law demands clear labels or mention of the paid promotion or incentivised posts to avoid delusive advertisement. Every promoted post must have the label. Many influencers also buy instagram likes and make it look like it is reaching a lot of people, when it is a promoted post.

How Instagram Is Tackling This?
The CMA’s chief executive, Andrea Coscelli said R “For too long, major platforms have shied away from taking responsibility for hidden advertising on their site. So, this commitment to tackle hidden adverts and overhaul the way people post on Instagram – making it difficult for users to ignore the law – is a welcome step forward.”
After the huge backlash of this unfair means of promotion by the influencer industry, Instagram promised to tackle this problem by placing stricter means and measures for paid content on their platform. Instagram has pledged to make it harder to hide Advertisements and fool the followers whereas they’re working on making it easier mentioning and labelling advertisements.
Instagram is constantly working with measures withstanding hidden advertisement. It includes educating Instagram users about how to find out if the post is an advertisement or not.
Facebook owned networking site is looking forward towards launching a tool for brands and businesses conducting Advertisements of their product on Instagram to keep them maintain the track of how and by whom their products are being advertised. This way Instagram can take off unwanted, unnecessary and unlabeled posts.
Although the bug was first cracked down by Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom and was combated by the same, the new algorithm resisting this action will be enforced globally.
