CBD isolates, which don’t contain THC, are more pure forms of CBD, but may not have the same wellness benefits as full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD products.
Are you curious about cannabidiol (CBD)? You might be thinking about giving CBD a try, like CBD for anxiety and sleep. Perhaps you’re interested in using a topical CBD cream to relieve pain or arthritis.
According to Roger McIntyre, MD, a professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of Toronto, CBD can be beneficial. “This is not some kind of quackery or nonsense.” Nonetheless, he says, there hasn’t been enough reliable data to recommend pure CBD crystals for patients with serious mental illnesses or for “wellness” in healthy people.
Dr. McIntyre does not recommend CBD to his patients, but he admits that many use it anyway. He asks those who use cannabis-based medicines to let him know, so we can monitor interactions with other medications. (Read about one woman’s experience using CBD oil for insomnia.)
CBD isolate may be the best option for those who want to try CBD but don’t want to risk ingesting trace amounts of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal mind-altering ingredient in marijuana.
We presented everything you need to know about CBD isolate, including its benefits, risks, how it is made, how it is used, and where you can purchase it.
What is CBD isolate?
CBD isolate is a compound extracted from the plant Cannabis sativa. As a result of the way manufacturers extract (or isolate) the CBD from all of the other components of the plant, it is the purest form of CBD.
CBD isolate crystals, CBD isolate powder, and CBD isolate oil are some of the various forms that the substance comes in without a distinctive scent or taste.
As the name suggests, CBD isolate crystal is CBD in its purest form. CBD isolate crystals can be mixed into liquids or even vaped. It is easier to consume CBD isolate powder since the crystal is ground into a powder.
Powder is, in fact, the easiest form to consume. You can mix it into edibles such as gummies or drinks such as juice and tea. CBD oil can also be made from CBD isolate mixed with carrier oils. (I’ll provide more information on how you can create your own CBD isolate oils and products later.)
Benefits of CBD isolate
Health ailments like anxiety, pain, inflammatory conditions, epilepsy, and cancer symptoms can be alleviated by CBD. The question remains, however, whether it actually works for all of these indications. (A CBD oil-based drug, Epidiolex, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat seizures in a few rare types of epilepsy.)
“At this point, the scientific evidence does not seem as robust and as compelling as the enthusiasm for it in the public,” Dr. McIntyre says.
Differences between CBD oil and CBD isolate
CBD oil is produced by extracting cannabinoids, terpenes, and other components from cannabis plants. The CBD oil and other products that contain all these components (including THC) as well as CBD are called full-spectrum products.
Whole-spectrum products are processed to remove THC but leave other cannabinoids and terpenes intact. CBD isolate, which can also be suspended in oil, is the result of further processing that removes everything except the CBD. Find out if CBD will make you fail a drug test or make you high.
