How Specialty Groups Shine at Elevations RTC
Teenagers are always looking to find others to bond with, whether they realize it or not. At Elevations RTC, a residential treatment center that offers a community atmosphere on campus, groups tend to be formed at some point. They might be small, but they are tight. In fact, the specialty groups offered on campus are among the main selling features of the campus in general. What makes them so unique? When teenagers feel like they are fitting in and enjoying life, they can move past any negative aspects that are holding them back.

Music and art Therapy
Music and art are two extracurricular activities that almost every student has participated in at some point in their life. However, in a more traditional school setting, there is less opportunity for students to really dive into something that they enjoy. At Elevations RTC, these groups are kept very small, and students get more hands-on experience to see if there is something to their liking.
It is also an elective for many students, so only those who truly have a passion will go in that direction. If a student feels as though they do not have that drive to take part in music or pursue the arts, they have the opportunity to do what they want to help them take the steps they need to be a better person overall. Forcing students to spend time outside the classroom doing activities they do not have a passion for is a recipe for disaster in a lot of cases.
Living a Healthier Life
Getting into poor eating and exercise habits can be detrimental not only to physical health but mental health as well. Students who do not feel confident about their body and do not have the energy they need to go out and achieve as much as they can or they will lag behind in their development. That is why specialty groups focus on living a healthier life, and that all starts with brand new habits that stick out.
On-campus, students have every opportunity to benefit from what is offered to them at all times. They can make smart eating choices since all meals are on campus, and there is every activity out there to stay physically fit and active. There are opportunities not only for the summer, which is usually easier to stay healthy and in shape, but winter activities also exist.
By having a group to rely on, everyone is more motivated to meet their goals and stay up-to-date with everything in general. There is even a unique group that focuses on smart gardening. Students have the chance to learn how to grow foods that they can then incorporate into their healthy lifestyle. It is a skill that easily carries over beyond Elevations RTC.
Dealing with Attachment Issues
Attachment issues can plague any student that comes through the doors at Elevations RTC. While often linked to adopted children, anyone who has gone through a trauma or abusive situation at home can have attachment issues that linger.
It is a touchy subject for a lot of teenagers to talk about without any prompting, but there is a group set up to do exactly that. Not only do therapists look over the group and help as much as possible with solutions that work, but other students are easy to lean on as well.
Handling attachment issues is a process that takes time, and it must be done delicately as well. No person wants to be in a situation where they are constantly struggling to find answers. Without any assistance, students can bottle something in and never get over that hump.
Stepping away from home, often for the first time, can make students feel like they are alone. Attachment issues easily creep back into the picture when this is the case. By introducing specialty groups to students from the very beginning, there is less of a chance of teenagers ever feeling like they can’t open up about something.
Finding a Lifelong Passion
Whether it is art, athletics, a particular school course, or anything else for that matter, having a passion in life is huge. Students can really dive into something that interests them, and they start to realize just what type of impact it makes.
Passions can be much more than just a way to spend time creatively. For example, there are many people worldwide who have used their passion as something that then turns into a job. It might seem surprising that it can get to that point, but it just goes to show how quickly everything can change. When people are working and staying involved in something they are invested in, that makes all the difference.
No Existing Specialty Group? No Problem
The final solution for students who have a particular passion is to turn to the creative team at Elevations RTC. Simply put, if a student shows interest in a hobby or passion, the staff makes it work. Someone works to become knowledgeable on the topic and finds as many resources as possible to create a new atmosphere. Other students are encouraged to join in if they wish, but it can also be an individual passion for specialty needs.
It feels restricting at times for students to feel like they have to fit inside a specific box. That is never the case at Elevations RTC. Everyone is unique, and there is a group available to help support that.
