Four E-Learning Predictions For 2019
e-Learning, without a doubt, has become one of the most significant assets to students everywhere. While the ability to study anything, at any time, from anywhere with a decent internet connection might be too good to be true, it is very much real and is accessible to everyone, everywhere.
However, much like any other service today, there is always room for improvement. From brick and mortar classrooms integrating projectors and other electronics for teaching to university students making more use of laptops and tablets daily, nearly every educational institute always has room for improvement; and e-Learning is no different.
As e-Learning has become a formidable force in the education industry, people are becoming a lot more excited to see what the future has in store for e-Learning. With that said, here are four predictions for e-Learning in 2019.

e-Learning Predictions for 2019
1. Gamification And Games-Based Learning
With all of the controversy around games in recent years about them inducing violence in children and students of all ages, games are not necessarily on the good side of parents. However, regardless of the controversies that surround the gaming industry and games themselves, there is no denying that games are incredibly immersive and have the potential to teach students much better than any other course material.
2019 will see a massive rise in companies and teachers using games to teach students about course material and to solidify course concepts. If games can teach people apocalyptic survival skills and intense item management, then they can surely teach them how to form covalent bonds and how a price drop from a major company can affect the demand curve for an entire market.
1. A Much Larger Emphasis On Microlearning
As the general attention span of students in this generation shortens, teachers will have to design their courses around shorter attention span. Students can no longer sit through two or three-hour lectures without burning out completely. Instead, teachers are taking the approach of microlearning to teach students.
2019 will see companies and teachers make much more creative use of microlearning, as they create immersive content related to course material in short bursts. Microlearning will also go great with gamification and game-based learning, as microlearning techniques are essentially tutorial levels after select levels. Moreover, as 2018 saw a massive spike in teachers using this technique, it is easy to say that this will continue to 2019.
1. Artificial Intelligence Will Take Center Stage
Artificial intelligence has begun playing a major role in our lives. From its use in cars and phones to dedicated home appliances like Alexa in your house, Artificial intelligence has already managed to seep its way into our daily lives. Moreover, if Artificial intelligence made its way to phones and cars, it is not far from e-Learning.
Various companies are using artificial intelligence to guide students better and help them better focus on the contents of their course. Artificial Intelligence will also bring about greater personalization, which will allow students to learn the way they want to save both time and effort.
Even companies are making use of artificial intelligence to train employees about company standards, and to set more personalized employee training needs; further cementing its importance.
2. More Integrated Augmented And Virtual Reality Content
It comes as no surprise that virtual and augmented reality, better known as VR and AR, are two of the most famous forms of entertainment of the decade so far. However, other than making for good entertainment, VR will also make waves in the e-Learning community through its unorthodox yet immersive viewing experience.
As for AR, it is a lot more accessible and is a lot easier to integrate into everyday learning. Both of these viewing experiences will completely change how students will view, interact, and interpret information. One of the most recent examples for AR and VR based learning came from Wal-Mart, where they used both VR and AR to train employees for black Friday type experiences.
Bonus Prediction: Video Learning Will Play A Major Role In Teaching
Video learning is already the most famous form of e-Learning and will continue to be so. With various websites and applications like Khan Academy, Udemy, Masterclass, and Skillshare, people have given an overwhelmingly positive response to video learning.
Since creating video content is seamless and efficient than producing text-based content, this is also the most favorable form of content for teachers. However, this convenience comes at a price, as video content is a lot more expensive and time-consuming to make. That said, both of these complaints are slowly becoming less of an inconvenience, as both the cost and time for making videos are dropping significantly, thanks to faster and cheaper computers.
Conclusion
2019 is sure to be a major year for e-Learning, as it will be the year when AR and VR will become a part of different courses. 2019 will also be the year when AMD releases its much cheaper and faster processors that people can use to create better content much faster. In conclusion, there is a lot to look forward to in 2019, as it is the year that will possibly bring the most innovation to e-Learning and might change the landscape altogether.
